Data Protection Guidance – Rough Sleeping Project
Background
The Rough Sleeping Insights Project has the ambition to develop an integrated rough sleeping data solution for local government and non-government service providers across London, to better understand client journeys, plan services, report trends, and manage performance.
Given the fractured state of data held by multiple organisations, this is a discovery and research project, sharing and processing the personal data of vulnerable individuals. The project has higher information governance risks for these reasons and guidance has been developed to support this.
Who should use it?
Charities and hostel providers
The guidance is not primarily aimed at local authorities, however it may be useful to help local authorities understand some of the issues relating to data sharing for research purposes with charities and smaller organisations.
Aims
This guidance was produced to support smaller charities and hostel providers to help them identify the relevant lawful basis for their processing and data sharing, and to help them provide suitable privacy information to individuals.
Whilst it is specific to the Rough Sleeping Insights Project, the guidance can be helpful in reviewing more broadly the lawful basis for charities, and data sharing for research projects.
