LOTI have developed a set of practical recommendations to guide boroughs in their ambitions to innovate with data in a manner that also meets the ethical expectations of their residents.
Each recommendation comes with specific actions to inform how a borough or other local government organisation might deliver on it.
The recommendations have also been ranked by LOTI in terms of the most appropriate steps depending on the organisation’s ethical maturity level (see homepage).
LOTI take ‘data ethics’ to refer to the standards of how data should be collected, shared and used and goes beyond the legal obligations of local government, for example as defined in the UK General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). In particular LOTI recommendations build on the data ethics standards that residents expect of local government.
