Several key terms related to digital inclusion and device lending and gifting schemes are used throughout this guide. This glossary provides short definitions of these terms.
Beneficiaries: Digitally excluded people to whom an organisation loans or gifts digital devices. They may also be referred to as ‘participants’ or ‘recipients’.
Digital devices: This includes desktop computers, laptops, Chromebooks, tablets and smartphones.
Digital device gifting: The process of donating a digital device to someone who is digitally excluded for their permanent use.
Digital device lending: The process of allowing someone to use a digital device under an agreement to return it to the lending organisation within a set timeframe.
Transfer of ownership agreement (sometimes referred to as a ‘gift agreement’): A legal document that outlines the key terms and conditions in relation to the transfer of devices from a donor to a recipient.
